  5. By 2089 an epidemic of mozart addiction 
  6. grew widespread. Sociometric and trend  
  7. analysis indicated root causes in       
  8. alienation, anomy, and individual       
  9. despair over the stifling sameness of   
  10. the world. This despite repeated efforts
  11. at enforcing mandated ethnic and        
  12. cultural differences. It was feared by a
  13. majority of the world population that   
  14. there was, literally, nothing to live   
  15. for. As an aside this also may reveal to
  16. some extent why there was no more       
  17. resistance to the Migration when it     
  18. arrived.

  20. Personal monitor statistics show that   
  21. over 72% of the world population spent  
  22. more than 50% of their individual free  
  23. time under mozart. Full sensory and     
  24. experiential induction meant these      
  25. people were in another, invented, mental
  26. space, despite the availability of      
  27. realtime experience through other       
  28. channels. Intercorp Council was at a    
  29. loss to understand this flight into     
  30. fantasy. After all, Intercorp management
  31. of the world was benign and allowed for 
  32. great personal freedom of action and    
  33. expression. Yet a vast majority did flee
  34. into the mozart experience, which forced
  35. production of inferior and hastily      
  36. conceived mozart experiences. These     
  37. experiences were deplored by artistic   
  38. and social critics as sentimental and   
  39. escapist, but nothing they put out on   
  40. the nets had any discernible impact on  
  41. their popularity.
